談到音樂劇 (Musicals)，許多人首先會想到的，當然非「歌劇魅影」 (The Phatom of the Opera) 莫屬了！由於「歌劇魅影」太過成功，它幾乎已經成為音樂劇的代名詞。(嗯，當然還是有些人看到「歌劇」兩個字，就誤認其為歌劇作品…)
我個人也非常喜愛「歌劇魅影」這齣音樂劇，它的確可算是音樂劇大師 Andrew Lloyd Weber 的顛峰之作。能夠在百老匯戲院連續演出二十幾年，絕非浪得虛名。
記得當初第一次接觸 Weber 的音樂劇精選 CD 時，個人連續聽了一個星期都還意猶未盡，頗有相見恨晚的感覺。即使多年之後，有時無意聽到「歌劇魅影」內若干插曲及旋律，還是會讓內心覺得有些悸動。
拜媒體之賜，「歌劇魅影」在台灣幾乎人盡皆知，也曾經在台北演出了兩次，實在不需我再為它宣傳了。
相較於「歌劇魅影」，在音樂劇史上另一齣經典「悲慘世界」(Les Misérables)，在本地所受到的關注就遠少的多。由於這是我個人很鍾愛的一齣音樂劇，藉此發表一下自身的感想。
以我的觀點，「歌劇魅影」就好像一顆燦爛奪目的鑽石，馬上會吸引大多數人的眼光。「悲慘世界」就沒有如此耀眼，有點像是個樸實的玉石，需要時間才能體會它的內涵。當初一開始聆聽「悲慘世界」，確實沒有如「歌劇魅影」有驚艷的感覺；但隨著對其內容的進一步瞭解，自己對此音樂劇也變得益發喜愛。
前一陣子英國選秀節目 “Britains Got Talent”，捧紅了台灣媒體所戲稱的「蘇珊大嬸」(Susan Boyle)，而她在節目中所演唱之 "I Dreamed a Dream”，就是出自於「悲慘世界」劇中的一首插曲。可惜一般媒體只著重報導「蘇珊大嬸」的八卦，並沒有向觀眾介紹這一齣經典的音樂劇，殊為可惜。
看過「歌劇魅影」的人都知道，其舞台效果是很絢爛而華麗的。而「悲慘世界」在聲光效果上，就顯得很樸實，但也讓觀眾更專注在劇情及音樂本身之上。
以個人的經驗，若要體會「悲慘世界」的豐富內涵，對此劇的故事背景及歌詞內容，最好可以拜讀一遍。如此可讓你在欣賞音樂的同時，更能深入其精髓，而不是只是淪為表象而已。
「悲慘世界」的故事背景，是改編自法國大文豪雨果 (Victor Hugo) 的同名小說 (亦稱為「孤星淚」)，描述法國十九世紀初的人物生活。劇中以主角「尚萬強」( Jean Valjean) 試圖贖罪的歷程而發展，而延伸至許多其他相關角色。根據 Wiki 的說法，雨果為了這部作品，前後構思了40年，直到晚年才完成。他自稱這是「一部宗教作品」。
嗯，聽起來似乎是很嚴肅的內容，該不是音樂也很乏味吧！其實不然。全劇是有點感傷，但充滿了旋律優美的主題及插曲，無論在歌詞內容或音樂性皆可稱為上乘之作。
此劇最早是法文版的音樂劇，後來才改編為英文版，也是目前我們所熟知的版本。期間並翻譯成多國不同語言的版本，並在各國公演，影響力可說無遠弗屆。
對個人而言，我最喜愛的一首曲子是 “On My Own”。在劇中的歌曲背景，是描述劇中 Eponine 單戀 Marius 的心情寫照。Eponine 與 Marius 雖是好友，但 Marius 始終不知她的心意，還託她送信給他心儀的另一女孩 Cosette。 (嗯，依我看來，這還真傷人...) 不過根據個人的觀點，其歌詞內容可能更貼近同志暗戀 straight 的心境。 J

說真的，每次我聽到這首歌，都會為歌曲中所呈現的映象覺得感傷。
想像一個人獨自走在寂靜的夜裡，沒有朋友、家人的扶持，對自已心儀的對象，也無法開口表達。
而所有的一切想像都只存在自己的腦海之中。
自己的生活中，似乎只是一直存在偽裝；而一般人可享有的快樂，對自己卻何其困難…。
呵呵，倒不是說同志的生活就要如此悲哀。
只是每個人的內心難免會感到脆弱，而這首歌詞很貼切的表達出心境中孤獨的一面。
另一首自己很鍾愛的小品則為 “A Little Fall Of Rain”，則是描述 Eponine 受重傷之後，最後躺在 Marius 的懷中而死去。歌詞大意是說，雖然自己傷的很重，只要有心愛的人陪在一旁照顧她，自己就不會覺得痛苦，因為沒有任何事物可以再傷害她了。

儘管生前無緣在一起，自己單戀的對象在臨死之際還能陪在身邊，也可說死而無憾了。
有人說愛情力量是很巨大的，足以讓人變得勇敢，而此曲正是最好寫照。
嗯，應該有人會認為我只在乎人世間的小情小愛，而忽略了劇中其他的傑作。

其實「悲慘世界」內的佳作還有很多，個人只是提出其中兩首曲子的感想，其餘就待客官們自己去發掘了…。
Anyway，若有人對音樂劇有興趣，除了欣賞「歌劇魅影」之外，千萬別錯過「悲慘世界」這齣經典之作。
眉批：儘管此劇中的人物，是處在法國混亂的時期，但始終沒有遺忘人性中的光明面。對芸芸眾生而言，生活中或許充滿了挑戰及壓力，但千萬要保持正面思考，永遠不要放棄希望。
